From the back cover:

Christie Bates worked hard to overcome the pain of her brother’s death as a teen, a path that led to her work as a grief counselor. When she meets cancer survivor Eli Roberts, she is touched by his obvious devotion to his children, all the more so after learning his wife left him during his treatments.

Yet no matter how drawn she is to Eli, Christie knows better than to risk her heart to the kind of loss that brought her to her knees once before. Except that, during the course of their friendship, Eli’s kids have already found a place in her heart. And Eli’s strength of spirit has taught her to live – and love- again. Soon Christie begins to see that love and family are worth any risk- even when tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

These days we’ve all been touched by cancer, whether it’s personal or someone we know, the disease is scary, larger than life, and takes no prisoners. As someone who has seen cancer on a very up close and personal level, WISH ME TOMORROW immediately caught my interest. I wondered how Karen Rock would take something so devastating and turn it into a thing of beauty. It didn’t take me long to find out.

I powered through this book, eating up every page. The emotions are so raw and real and Ms. Rock perfectly captures the uncertainty that cancer survivors face, especially ones who constantly worry whether their children will have to find a way to grow up without them. Eli’s reluctance to make plans and promises, his careful guarding of his heart, and his disconnect with his children all serve to make a compelling, un-put-down-able book.

Add in Christie Bates, one grief counselor who’s suffered enormous grief of her own and still somehow manages to cling to hope, and you’ve got a beautiful romance in the making. Christie slowly brings Eli back to life, helping him reconnect with his children and all the things he once loved.

If you’re looking for emotion, this book has it in spades. WISH ME TOMORROW is everything a romance should be, full of depth and heart and the wholesome kind of sensual tension that completely captures all the chemistry of falling in love without crossing a line that doesn’t need to be crossed. If I could make one, teensy, tiny quibble, it would be that I would have loved to see a real wedding between Eli and Christie, a bigger declaration of their long and beautiful future, because the romantic in me only wants to hear about happy endings. 🙂 However, on the other hand, I appreciated Ms. Rock’s honesty. By not sugarcoating the romance, she imparts a greater message. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, not for anyone. All we can do is grab hold of love, appreciate what we have, and live life to the fullest.

WISH ME TOMORROW is Karen Rock’s adult debut (she writes young adult romance with her sister-in-law under the pen name J.K. Rock) and I cannot wait to read more from her!
